Visual Editions
Dziś znalezisko nieco odmienne od pozostałych, mianowicie działalność londyńskiego wydawnictwa Visual Editions, którego zarówno twory jak i graficzna identyfikacja mają oryginalną postać. Bardzo podoba mi się zwłaszcza animowane logo. Poszczególne litery kolejno zmieniają się w desenie a po odświeżeniu strony cała jej szata graficzna zmienia kolory. Wykładnią filozofii VE są słowa:
"We wondered why there is such a large divide between text-driven literary books on the one hand and picture-driven art and design books on the other. And we wondered why this divide seems so extreme, when most of us compute visuals in our everyday more than ever before. We believe this visual everydayness adds to the way we read, it adds to the way we experience what we read and the way we absorb and understand the way stories are told: through words and pictures."
Wydawnictwo wydało m.in. eksperymentalną książkę "Trees of codes" – autor, Jonathan Safran Foer, dosłownie pociął książkę Bruno Schulza "Ulica krokodyli", zaadaptowując ją do swoich potrzeb.

Traumgedanken
The book “Traumgedanken” (“Thoughts on dreams”) contains a collection of literary, philosophical, psychological and scientifical texts which provide an insight into different dream theories.
To ease the access to the elusive topic, the book is designed as a model of a dream about dreaming. Analogue to a dream, where pieces of reality are assembled to build a story, it brings different text excerpts together. They are connected by threads which tie in with certain key words. The threads visualise the confusion and fragileness of dreams.
On five pages there are illustrations made out of thread. Their shape and colour relies on the key words on the opposite page. This way an abstract image of the dream about dreaming is generated.
In addition there are five pages where a significant excerpt from a text of the opposite page is stitched into the paper. It is not legible because the type’s actual surface is inside the folded page. This expresses the mysteriousness of dreams and the aspect of dream interpretation.

Book Breakthrough
The theme of the first TEDxAmsterdam conference was “Breakthrough”. In this book we decided to focus on how children view the world. Children younger than three years old are still “free” of the confines of assumptions and of rules with regard to our (acquired) reality. This creates an opening for new points of view and surprising thoughts on a wide range of ideas.
We asked a few upcoming artists, illustrators, writers, designers and photographers from our network to give their view on the theme “Breakthrough”; the hidden and/or forgotten beauty of everyday. The book resulted in a collection of inspiring articles from the 2009 TEDx speakers, practical information on the event and interpretations of the theme breakthrough in small booklets interspersed between the pages.
Accompanying the book, the program is printed on thin paper creating transparancy in the layout.
The theme of the first TEDxAmsterdam conference is “Breakthrough”. The interesting aspect of this theme is that a breakthrough can be ambitious and compelling, but it can also be small. Preceding the conference the theme was presented via the new website. People were able to upload short videos, telling about their personal breakthroughs in life. Besides checking the weekly announced speaker, uploaded videos could be viewed to get into the TED mood.
